first_imgA warning for commuters, the journey home is likely to entail lightning, thunder and possible flash flooding this afternoon.According to forecaster Rod Dickson, the incoming storms are expected to be more severe than those this morning. “The conditions are such that we could see flash flooding almost anywhere in the state with decent thunderstorm activity, and that’s probably most likely this afternoon over western areas of the state,” he said.“If you’re under one of the storms – and it’s a big one – 30 millimetres could come down in a hurry and cause flash flooding.”Weather also affected flights this morning, with two international flights diverted from Melbourne to Sydney after being deemed unsafe to land. The conditions haven’t been too friendly to the Australian Open, though the three major courts – Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court and Hisense Arena – can be covered so that matches this afternoon will go to schedule.Rain is expected to continue throughout the weekend, with a few showers on Australia Day. “There will likely be a shower or two around in the morning on Tuesday, with cloudy conditions to start the day,” Mr Dickson said.“But there may be a little bit of sunshine around in the afternoon.”Source: The Age Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagramlast_img read more
