first_imgThe Ilonggo senator told reporters on Tuesday he will file a Senate resolution seeking an inquiry into government expenses for the biennial event right after its staging on mid-December. MANILA – Senate Minority Leader FranklinDrilon is pushing for an inquiry into the P700-million fund released to aprivate sector for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games that will held in thecountry later this month. “Dapat i-audit ng husto ng COA, hindi lang po ito tungkol sa P50-million cauldron, kung hindi ‘yung ibang gastusin,” Drilon said. Drilon earlier questioned the “propriety” of spending more than P50 million in public funds to build the cauldron that will be used only once during the SEA Games opening on Nov. 30. “Hinihiling ko po sa COA na magkaroon ng special audit para po matignan ng husto ang ginastos dito sa Southeast Asian Games,” he added. “Sa akin, masyadong extravagant ang mahiwaga at pinakamalaking kaldero sa buong mundo, sa kasaysayan ng ating bansa,” Drilon said. For his part, Sen. Juan Edgardo Angara, chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, said the budget for theconstruction of the cauldron was lodged with the Philippine Sports Commission. “Dapat i-audit ng husto ang expenses, hindi lang po ito tungkol sa P50-million cauldron, kung hindi ‘yung ibang gastusin,” says Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon. ABS-CBN NEWS “We have to support our athletes. ‘Di naman nila kasalanan itong pangaabuso na nakikita natin but it doesn’t mean that we will not question these expenses,” he added. Drilon also called on the Commission on Audit (COA) to conduct a special inspection of the government’s financial records pertaining to its expenditures for the event. The cauldron, which has a diameter ofthree meters, costs P4.48 million to design, while the 50-meter highfoundation costs P13.4 million. first_imgWhy Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… AltHouse, Citizen WElls, Economist’s View: These are some of the most popular blogs in the world and their streams of daily posts get hundreds of legitimate comments. They are published on Blogspot, WordPress and Typepad, respectively. A report published today by data analysis service Postrank concludes that legacy-hosted blog platforms are still far ahead of much-hyped microblogging services like Tumblr and Posterous in terms of reader engagement. This despite the fact that you don’t hear about people using Blogger and Typepad much anymore in early-adopter circles.Read on for graphs of engagement below. The same analysis performed here can be run on any sets of top-level domains using the newly released Postrank Domain Activity API.Which Blogging Platforms Get The Most Engagement?Postrank measures engagement by comments to posts, mentions on Twitter, inbound links, votes on Digg and many other quantifiable metrics. All the numbers below are over the last 90 days. Blogspot, the domain for Google’s Blogger blogging tool, still reigns supreme almost 11 years after it launched. What’s the takeaway here? I look at these numbers and think a couple of things. First, it appears that the world-changing democratization of publishing by the first wave of blogging tools has had some sticking power. Second, just because our early adopters’ scene and the mainstream media are talking about Facebook and Twitter instead of “the bloggers” nowadays, doesn’t mean that people have abandoned blogging. Finally, even though curation services like Tumblr and Posterous are pretty awesome, they haven’t gotten as much mainstream mindshare yet as the old classics have.I think these engagement numbers are a good snapshot of the state of the technology over time. I find it encouraging that there is such a thriving blogging scene still today. What do you take away from these numbers?Postrank is generally very useful and accurate, but the maze of social media links can sometimes be challenging to penetrate. Running Facebook.com and Twitter.com through the API turns up an unrealistically low amount of engagement with those domains. Both are reported to be roughly 3 times as big as ReadWriteWeb. I suspect the ratio is a little bigger than that.Other Interesting ObservationsWhat other domains are being talked about across social media conversations? Postrank made some interesting observations today, including:Twitter users talk about Google, Facebook users talk about YahooHonda gets talked about far more than Ford or Toyota. Michael Reaves/Getty Images/AFPPHILADELPHIA — Ronda Rousey stayed silent as she pointed from the ring toward the WrestleMania logo that hung in the rafters.Without saying a word, the MMA great made clear she was signaling her wrestling debut at WWE’s signature event. Globe Business launches leading cloud-enabled and hardware-agnostic conferencing platform in PH Now, the 30-year-old Rousey can now stay relevant and marketable in the cartoon world of fake fights without throwing a real punch. While very real injuries still occur on the scripted shows, Rousey can have more control of her physical activity in a choreographed environment. The deal was an instant smash. Rousey’s appearance generated headlines on celebrity and news websites all over the world.Jason Powell, editor of ProWrestling.net, said it’ll still be tough to get UFC fans to follow her to WWE.“That said, she appealed to more than just the hardcore UFC viewers, so if they can get the more casual viewers who were ordering her fights to make the switch then they will have something,” Powell said.WWE, which reported revenue of $186.4 million and profits of $21.8 million for the third quarter, is banking on Rousey to boost sagging ratings and network subscriptions. WWE said at its 2014 launch it could have between 2 million and 4 million subscribers at $9.99 a month. The company announced about 1.5 million paid subscribers as of Sept. 30, 2017. Up next, her future will be addressed on WWE’s flagship “Raw” show in Philadelphia on Monday night and then she’ll save the April 8 date in New Orleans for WrestleMania.“This has been a dream of mine since before I could talk and was trying to say Hulk Hogan,” Rousey told WWE.com . “This has been a dream of mine since I started MMA and I asked ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper if I could have his name. This has been a dream of mine since me and all my girlfriends, all we would do every night is sit around and watch wrestling together.”The Rousey-wrestling tag team should be a big win for both parties.Rousey hasn’t fought since she suffered a 48-second loss to Amanda Nunes and made a $3 million purse at UFC 207 in December 2016.
